Cyber-criminals often use a wide variety of methods to try and install malicious software (malware) on devices. This malicious software allows the criminal to capture sensitive information as you type. The best defences against this are:
- Updates and patches – keep your device up to date by installing the latest application and operating system updates.
- Anti-virus software – install a trusted anti-virus solution, and keep it updated.
- Be cautious about any links and pop-ups you click on. If you're not sure about the origin of the link or pop-up, then do not click it. Always think twice before potentially installing any software from untrusted sources.
